Join artist, patchworker, and Craft South founder, Anna Maria Horner, for an exciting weekend of building gorgeous floral quilts using various techniques!  Anna Maria will share her process and techniques that include hand applique, machine applique, reverse applique and various patchwork. These tutorials can help you to create her Plot Twist, Folk Flower, Cross Country or Safe Passage quilts.... or create your own!  Whether you go more improv or planned, you will walk away inspired!  She'll share her tips for color and fabric selection, cutting, layout, stitching and planning your finish.  Anna Maria can also guide you more specifically through making one of her new applique quilts patterns that use all of these techniques.  BONUS- all students will receive her template sets, and will be guided through using them for perfect cutting, pressing and placement!

We are combining the art of weaving with our love of fabrics and offering a new class to expand your weaving skills! Rug Twine Weaving takes colors and textures to a whole new level by using a traditional loom - but with FABRICS (!!!) - to create functional, utilitarian pieces of art such as place mats, table runners, rugs, and more! This type of weaving is a great introduction for the beginner or a wonderful way to expand on your current skills - and it's a fabulous way to use up fabric scraps from previous projects! Come relax and work with your hands while learning this centuries-old heritage craft with local fiber artist, Dana Stein. After completing this project, you will have a unique, one-of-a-kind place mat to use and enjoy!

Bring your mama and enjoy this workshop together, or make her something that will last forever! Our event includes all the materials you need, plus cute little succulent cupcakes to nosh on!

Students will learn basic needle felting skills such as creating balls and attaching segments to create a three-dimensional soft sculpture that can also be an adorable pin cushion. We will adorn the succulents with details including pins and flowers. Enjoy an afternoon of edible and woolen succulents with fellow crafters!

Materials Needed (included in the cost of class):

  • Roving for filling and succulent colors including shades of greens, browns and black, and pops of color for flowers
  • A teacup to place your sculpture in (we will have these on hand, but feel free to bring a favorite one!)

In this class, modern quilt designer and fabric designer,  Carolyn Friedlander, will focus on free motion quilting with your home sewing machine. She’ll cover design strategy by discussing how to approach your project and what to put where. We’ll move into the technical stuff by exploring the mechanics behind making those design strategies come to life. Students are encouraged to bring one quilt top that will be a part of the class discussion. In looking at each student's actual work,all students will gain a varied perspective of strategy and design implementation.  Carolyn will have several of her finished works on hand and will spend time with students one-on-one in order to guide your unique project hopes.

Instructor Theresa Wilson is a costume designer who has worked for renowned Opera houses in Europe - she knows her stuff and she's going to share that knowledge with you! Students will start by making a paper pattern/draft and learn how to individually alter the pattern to create a unique design. All details will be explained and learned hands-on in a two evening session class. In the end, students will have their own, personalized fitted and individual top!

Summer is just around the corner, and our Breezy Caftan class will give you a charming staple for days at the pool, at the beach (or at the grocery!). The fit is relaxed and flowy, and the sewing is ideal for a beginner!  There are also fun customizing options using prints, solids or a mix of both.  In one class you will learn finished seams using an edge stitching foot, creating a casing for drawstrings and finishing side slits.

Required Materials:

  • 2 yards main fabric (+ if longer desired length) - lightweight voile, lawn, rayon, yarn dyes or simple cottons will all do fine!
  • 1/4 yard contrast for casing
  • 1.5 yards 1" wide of ribbon, twill or similar for drawstring (or 1" wide elastic instead of drawstring if desired)

Rug Twine Weaving takes colors and textures to a whole new level by using a traditional loom - but with FABRICS (!!!) - to create functional, utilitarian pieces of art such as place mats, table runners, rugs, and more! This type of weaving is a great introduction for the beginner or a wonderful way to expand on your current skills - and it's a fabulous way to use up fabric scraps from previous projects! Come relax and work with your hands while learning this centuries-old heritage craft with local fiber artist, Dana Stein. Discover the beautiful ways in which plants can be used to dye wool, silk, cotton, and linen. Using her book, The Modern Natural Dyer, as reference, Kristine will teach you the process of natural dyeing and how to create a wide spectrum of long-lasting color.


In this class, you will create a series of dyebaths from grown and gathered plants as well as from highly concentrated powders derived from plants called natural dyeing extracts. You will learn to make an indigo vat, how to create indigo dyed goods, and how, using a thread and needle, to create patterns upon cloth (shibori). You will leave this class with a collection of naturally dyed swatches and a practical foundation to starting your own natural dyeing practice using The Modern Natural Dyer.

Amy will walk you through cutting, sewing and fitting the Harriet, a lovely 3-piece underwired bra pattern designed for great support in all shapes and sizes. We’ll start the class with fittings and from there students will learn the basics of cutting and sewing supportive bra materials, tips for handling sheer fabrics and elastic, and professional finishing touches. Students will also learn practical methods of fitting and how to alter patterns to achieve the best support and style. You will leave this class packed with creative ideas for your bra making adventures!

Note: the Harriet pattern includes lined and unlined options. Students will make the unlined version with supportive cup fabrics and a lace upper cup for ease of sewing and fitting.

We are combining the art of weaving with our love of fabrics and offering a new class to expand your weaving skills! Rug Twine Weaving takes colors and textures to a whole new level by using a traditional loom - but with FABRICS (!!!) - to create functional, utilitarian pieces of art such as place mats, table runners, rugs, and more! This type of weaving is a great introduction for the beginner or a wonderful way to expand on your current skills - and it's a fabulous way to use up fabric scraps from previous projects! Come relax and work with your hands while learning this centuries-old heritage craft with local fiber artist, Dana Stein. After completing this project, you will have a unique, one-of-a-kind place mat to use and enjoy!

Techniques you will be learning:

  • How to lace a peg loom using yarn as your warp
  • How to Twine fabrics together to form weft
  • How to match colors and textures together
  • How to bind off and finish your piece

Materials required:

  • Peg Loom
  • 1 yard light colored fabric
  • 1 yard dark colored fabric
  • Yarn (25', any color)

Bring your fave pattern and join us for an open sewing night! This class is a great segway between a group class and a private lesson - you get to pick the project/pattern that YOU want to work on, and know that there is a knowledgable instructor on hand to help you whenever you get stuck. This class is perfect for all levels - from the super beginner to the intermediate/advanced who is ready to step up their game! Our instructor Lauren Taylor has made practically all garments - from jeans, to silk dresses, even lingerie - and can help you with whatever questions you may have! Tailor Night is a fun way to make your sewing a little more social, while also learning the techniques and projects that interest you the most!

Required Materials (available in our shop):

  • Whatever you want to work on! Make sure to bring your pattern, fabric, and necessary notions.

Class includes:

  • 3 hours of instruction
  • Use of our cutting, marking, and measuring tools
  • Use of our Janome sewing machines & thread - including our sergers and coverstitch machines!
  • Snacks & drinks
  • 15% off all in store purchases before, during and after on class day (yes, we will have the registers open during class!)

Choose your preferred date by selecting the option in the drop-down menu. If you paid for a class and cannot make it, you can simply use your paid pass for the next available Thursday!
