Sew Your Own Jeans Weekend Workshop

Sew Your Own Jeans Weekend Workshop
550.00

Fitting + Cutting Half Day: Friday, January 19th 2-6pm

Instruction: January 20th & 21st, 10a - 5p

A new year means new skills - so why not kick things off with a bang and sew up your own custom jeans! While making jeans seems like it would be scary and hard, it doesn't have to be - and our instructor Lauren Taylor is going to show you just how easy (and fun!) it can be!

Students will learn how to make jeans using the Ginger Jeans pattern from Closet Case Patterns - a classic high-rise skinny jean made with stretch denim.  We will go over everything you need to know to make a professional looking pair of jeans - choosing the correct size, tips for accurate topstitching, serged seam finishes, an easy fly-front zipper, and installing all that fun hardware! We will kick off the weekend with a half day to choose your size (we will have muslins of the pattern pre-made so you can try them on!) and cutting and marking your denim. Construction will begin on Saturday and go all through the weekend. Please note that while this is not a pants-fitting class, Lauren will cover basic flat pattern alterations and minor fitting adjustments as needed for each individual booty :)

While prior garment experience is not required to take this class (although we encourage you to sew a couple garments beforehand, as you will get so much more out of this class!), you must be comfortable threading and operating a sewing machine. Don't know how to use a sewing machine? Take our Sewing Machine Basics class!

Class fee includes the following:

  • 18 hours of instruction

  • Use of our marking, measuring, cutting, and sewing tools

  • Use of our Janome sewing machines

  • 15% off all in store purchases throughout the weekend

  • A goodie bag filled with some helpful notions & materials

  • Coffee, water, snacks throughout the weekend

Specific material requirements and schedule will be sent to participants in advance of workshop. We will have kits available to students with everything you need (fabric, pattern, hardware, and notions) to complete this project. Click here to see Nashville Area info to help plan your trip!

Trunk Show & Talk: Thursday, April 26th 6-8p

Weekend Workshop: Friday, April 27th 2-6p; Saturday April 28th 10a-5p

Designer & Craft South founder, Anna Maria Horner, will guide students through building modern bouquets using a special set of template shapes. Rather than follow a specific pattern, she will present a diverse set of examples to inspire students to achieve a block, a mini quilt or the beginnings of a larger piece. Anna Maria will share several technique demos for machine applique, needle-turn applique and patchwork considerations for backgrounds and borders. This is a wonderful way to break free of traditional block by block patchwork, yet still provides enough of a format to feel comfortable within that freedom. Learning these skills firsthand from her will inspire your making for a lifetime.

Class fee includes the following:

  • 10 hours of instruction

  • A seat in Anna's Trunk Show & Talk on Thursday, April 26th

  • Use of our Janome Sewing Machines

  • Use of our measuring, cutting, and sewing tools

Trunk Show & Talk: Thursday, September 20th, 6-8p

Weekend Workshop: September 21st & 22nd, 10a-5p

Learn to make your own custom bras with Amy Chapman, patternmaker and designer at Cloth Habit. Amy will walk you through cutting, sewing and fitting the Harriet, a lovely 3-piece underwired bra pattern designed for great support in all shapes and sizes. We’ll start the class with fittings and from there students will learn basic techniques in bra cutting and sewing. Along the way, you’ll get tips on working with unique bra fabrics and elastics, customizing underwires, and professional finishing touches. Once you finish your first bra, Amy will help make any adjustments for fit and you can work on a second bra with your refinements. You will leave the class with a pattern altered just for you, and packed with creative ideas for your bra making adventures!

Note: the Harriet pattern includes lined and unlined options. Students will make the unlined version with supportive cup fabrics and a lace upper cup for ease of sewing and fitting.

While prior garment experience is not required to take this class (although we encourage you to sew a couple garments beforehand, as you will get so much more out of this class!), you must be comfortable threading and operating a sewing machine.
